The Australian Indigenous Health Promotion Network is dedicated to improving the health of Indigenous Australians. The Network strives to:
Education and Professional Development
- Identify education and training needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health promotion practitioners, researchers and policy makers;
- Work with universities and colleges to develop and implement relevant professional preparation and continuing education courses in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and health promotion;
- Support and advise universities and colleges on Indigenous health promotion curriculum development and review;
- Organise professional development opportunities (short courses, workshops, meetings) to meet the needs of members;
Mobilise
- Enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are engaged in health promotion to communicate regularly about their work;
- Link Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are engaged in health promotion with international Indigenous health and health promotion networks;
- Advise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are engaged in health promotion on conferences, workshops, policy reviews and literature
- Facilitate professional exchange opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are engaged in health promotion
Advocacy
- Disseminate relevant health and public policy documents;
- Contribute to national debate and decision-making about infrastructure support and funding required for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health promotion; and
- Act as an advisory body on policy, education and work practices that improve the health status of Indigenous people
