About the Network | History | Philosophy | Achievements

In February 1995 representatives from the Australian Centre for Health Promotion, the University of Sydney and the National Heart Foundation of Australia met with 18 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers who had an interest in and/or experience in health promotion. The group included at least one representative from each State and both the Territories.

Following discussion of steps needed to strengthen Indigenous health promotion practice, research and policy, the participants wrote an 'Agenda for ActionÂ’. The Australian Indigenous Health Promotion Network was established to put the steps into action.

To date the Network has operated principally through regular teleconferences, and meetings held at national conferences, to discuss and arrive at consensus on priorities and actions.

The Network has now moved to a new phase of its development, utilizing online interaction through our member forum to enable people to be active in shaping policy, to build the professional development opportunities for members, and to build the knowledge base for Indigenous health promotion.

Join the network to contribute to positive change in Indigenous health.
