The Network has agreed to:
- ensure that its foundation is to support and provide information to our communities
- become a reference group in Indigenous health promotion that is recognised and consulted by the State/Territory and Commonwealth Governments on all relevant matters, including research, training, and policy in the area of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health promotion
- convey positive work that is being carried out to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
- articulate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health promotion role
- influence public policy and support partnership model in collaboration with key Indigenous health agencies.
- continue to work to build sustainable partnerships with mainstream organisations in health promotion (e.g. NSW Health, the Public Health Association, the Australian Association of Health Promotion Professionals, the Australian Centre for Health Promotion)
- create and support opportunities for members to present their work at conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
- encourage members to share and reflect on best practice in Indigenous health promotion.
- Establish standards for education on Indigenous health and health promotion
- inform professionals of Indigenous health and health promotion standards.
The philosophy was developed by Network members at a meeting in Sydney in 1996.
